1: CHAOS MAGIC
Wielded by: Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch
What is Chaos Magic:
Chaos Magic is arguably the most powerful form of magic in TV and Film, giving Wanda or the Scarlet Witch the ability to re-write, augment and puppeteer reality itself and everything within it, to a multiversal scale and even BEYOND that.
Chaos magic made Wanda capable of destroying an Infinity Stone [Mind Stone] with slight effort which caused not only Visions Death but a slight “shock wave” the swept throughout the trees of Wakanda.
It also gave her the power to almost kill Thanos, that if Thanos hadn’t had called out “Rain Fire” to his ally Corvus Glaive she would have been successful.
Moreover Wanda after the death of her brother [Pietro Maximoff] and lover [Vision] along with the deaths of her parents she in all her pain and grief unleashed the Chaos living within her creating a reality of her own in Westview [where her and vision planned to “grow old” together] in a hex.
With it also after the events of Westview her now the Scarlet Witch rendered her capable to access the multiverse via a book called the Darkhold, where she taught herself to “Dream-walk” in which she possessed the body of a variant of herself in an alternate universe [to the current 616] to destroy that realities version of the Illuminarti, this time she was successful.
Because of Chaos Magic, She is considered not an Omega level being but a NEXUS Level being.
NEXUS BEINGS:
“are rare individual entities with the ability to affect probability and the future altering the flow of the Universal Time Stream…act as the keystones of the Multiverse and are crucial to its ultimate coherence and stability.”
Meaning Wanda could destroy, disrupt and or disorder the multiverse causing it to destabilize, ergo she could obliterate the multiverse and all the life within them, at free will.
It’s Colour and Design:
Additionally, I’m IN LOVE with its red colouring adding to its already “chaotic” nature, representing Wanda’s rage making her a terrifying threat to be reckoned with demonstrated even more in her Scarlet Witch form, although it changes throughout each film to a darker pinkish-red tone like she has in the comics [an orangey-red in Age Of Ultron to a darker pinkish red in Multiverse of Madness].
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the streams of red that all flow into one especially within the earlier films,
that twist and bend and spin between the gaps of
her hands and fingers. [as seen in the GIF'S beside]
But her Hex’s seen in Wandavision formed by a layer of a glitchy, dark pinkish-red, magic is the stuff of GLOURIOUS nightmares
The Sound:
The almost “glitchy like magical jingle” similar to a wind chime, that her magic makes adding to Its colour and design as mentioned above, Isn’t just hypnotizing, but its mesmerizing to hear, that at times sounds like souls crying, would strike fear to anyone who dares to come up against Wanda Maximoff or The Scarlet Witch herself.
So, because of the reasons listed above, it has to be 1st on my list of my Top 5 Favourite Magics/Powers in TV & FILM.
2: THE DRAGON FLAME
Wielded by: Bloom Peters AKA The Fairy of The Dragon Flame.
What is the Dragon Flame:
Winx Club – The Dragon Flame also called “The Great Dragon” and “The Sacred Fire”, is a Dragon entity created from pure flames hence its name “The Dragon Flame”. It is said to be solely responsible for the creation of many planets that would eventually birth the Magical Dimension.
WINX -
“In the beginning, there was nothing then out of the deep darkness a dazzling light, was The Great Dragon then with HIS fiery breath he created a multitude of different world’s and spread light and heat across the universe” – Said by Headmistress Faragonda to Bloom In season 1 episode 6.
FATE –
“You were kidnapped by the witches…You weren’t safe in the Otherworld. THE POWER INSIDE YOU IS TOO GREAT. That’s why the witches wanted you, to use your power.” Rosalind to Bloom in season 1 episode 6.
“There’s a ledged a 1000 years old, that’s how old the burned ones are by the way. They were soldiers from an ancient war, the legend is about the magic used against them. It created them. It’s powerful. It’s primal. The Dragon Flame. It burns inside our changeling friend. The Burned Ones never stood a chance.” Rosalind to Miss Farah Dowling at the end of season 1 episode 6.
Making Bloom with The Dragon Flame in possession a God like being herself, meaning she is not just capable of creating world’s but also obliterating them to total ashes at will. Making her the most powerful fairy known in Tv/Film.
It’s Colour and Design:
In the final episode of season 1 we see Bloom manage to transform in a full-fledged fairy, where her magic became FULLY red in colour, compared to the glimpse of red seen emitting from her fire in the previous episodes.
What I loved is that in season 2 it changes little by little from a full-on red to an orangey-pink tinted flame, making it differ from the other fire fairies magic. I’m in ORE of the additions of twinkles that glimmer when Bloom sparks The Dragon Flame, that dance through out the streeks of waving magical fire, I also am in ORE of the little hints of gold that are hidden within. making the most gorgeous looking flames in TV and Film.
A Comparison between the Cartoon and Live Action [below].
The Sound:
There’s not much to mention about the sound as it sound’s like how fire magic would do, however that sound of crackling fire paired with the “Otherworldly” visual of orangey-pink tinted fire, would ignite fear into the person who choses to pick a fight with Bloom or “The Fairy of THE DRAGON FLAME”.
What are the Sun-Light and Portal Rune:
Sun-Light Rune –
The Sun-Light Rune is a special rune that Clary like many of the runes is drawn with a device called a Stele [a magical pen-wand] but instead of a place on her body she draws it on the palm of her hand, when compelled allows Clary to cast beams of holy sun-light out of said hand, the sun light is so powerful that it can in fact nock demons or those of demon blood off their feet, or shatter to dust debris, similar to the sparks that float off from fire.
It first appeared in the 5th episode [Dust and Shadows] of the second season of Freeform and Netflix’s Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments series, through a vision to Clary while she was trapped by Iris a female Warlock with a demon who had the intent to “rape and impregnate” Clary in the basement of Iris Rouse’s house.
Portal Rune –
The Portal Rune, unlike its counterpart the Sun-Light rune is not drawn on the palm of the hand but surprisingly in mid air, when completed begins to spin and scatter all by itself, that Clary then pushes whether slight or with force forward to transform into a magical portal, hence its name “The Portal Rune”.
It first appeared in the 16th episode [Day of Atonement] when her and Jace were trying to find a way to get to Staten Island, really to Idris to find Valentine, but Jace had revealed that the Clave denied his request for a portal, so things became stagnant in his mission. The rune yet again show’s up as a vision to Clary.
It’s almost like Clary can access her “Rune Creating” ability when the situation at hand is either dyer or is at a dead-end, like something is giving her a way out, or she is unlocking a magic never seen before or even a mixture of both.
The Colour and Design:
The ethereal golden glow that luminates from and wraps around the Sun-Light Rune is SO visually stunning. If I was to guess the Rune’s design could be based on the Astrology symbol for the sun [as seen below].
is the Portal Rune, the way that it connects
together like dozens of golden magical diamantes
is so heavenly made even heavenlier by the way
it’s bends light around it creating this beautiful
iridescently golden look. I thought it creative that the Rune took on the essence of the shape of Lake
Lin [a lake in Idris that was also the metaphysical mirror [used in part with "The Mortal Cup" to make
contact with the angels].
like strands of golden magic twining, weaving outward then inward together, make’s it stand out from other portals seen in other Tv Shows/Film’s.
The Sound:
Again, much like The Dragon Flame’s sound, there’s not much to mention about the sound of the Sun-Light Rune, other than sounding like what sun beams would sound like. But the sound that the Portal Rune make’s when it’s drawn, is as if Clary’s Stele’s tip is like a water droplet dripping onto a burning red hob when completed spinning to the sound of spitting fire sparklers that when closed transitions to the sound of echoing mystical wisps. All reinforce its mighty power, casting dread to whom dares to duel with Clary.
So, because of the reasons listed above, it has to be 3rd on my list of my Top 5 Favourite Magic/Powers in TV & FILM.
4: PTERA SCREAM POWER
Wielded by: Kira Ford AKA The Yellow Dino Thunder RangerWhat is The Ptera Scream Power:
The Petra Scream allows Kira to emit a powerful scream at the Tyrannodrones, helping her to gain an advantage in a fight by nocking them to the ground. The Ptera Scream was strong enough to nock Zeltrax [arguably one of the toughest villains in Power Rangers history] to the ground, showing its power from the get-go in it’s second appearance within the first episode [Day of The Dino PT1] of the show.
Kira gained the “Ptera scream power” after coming
into contact with the Yellow Dino Gem, during the
scene where she, Ethan and Connor discovered
Tommy Oliver’s headquarters, after they had fallen
into a “giant sinkhole” out in the woods, that lead
to said headquarters.
“Dino-Morphers, use these to become power rangers…your gems are from the asteroid that crashed into the earth millions of years ago, wiping out the entire dinosaur population, when I found them. I recognized their power and hid them, so they wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands.” Tommy informing Kira, Ethan and Connor.
“How do you know these are right hands?” Connor says to Tommy.
“The gems are yours; you didn’t choose them, they chose you” Tommy’s answer to Connors question.
“Can’t they un-choose us” Kira to Tommy's answer.
“They’ve already bonded with your DNA that’s what’s giving you your powers” Tommy’s answer to Kira’s question.
“The gems wouldn’t have bonded with you if you didn’t already have something inside you that can handle the power.” Tommy Oliver to the teens.
Meaning Kira [Ethan and Connor] already had something within them that attracted the Dino gems to them. For example: in Kira’s second introduction she is seen strumming her base guitar singing on a bench outside in the schoolyard, to quote Cassidy who called her an “Avril wannabe”. Hence, the yellow dino gem was attracted to Kira as she was the perfect candidate [within the area] for the “Pterodactyl”/”Ptera-Scream” power, due to her having the vocal prowess for it. It’s almost like the gems where aware of the teens before hand and lead Kira [Ethan and Connor] to them.
The “Ptera-Scream Power” can also act as a force-field to combat elemental or other attacks, as seen in one of the Dino Thunder & Ninja Storm crossover 2-parter episodes “Thunder Storm pt2” in the scene where the turned evil ninja rangers are fighting the dino rangers, specifically seen in the part where an evil Tori [Blue Ninja Storm Ranger] is fighting Kira, Tori blasting her water power towards Kira, Kira then using her “Ptera Scream Power” to quickly shield herself form Tori’s attack.
The Colour and Design:
I like that isn’t just an ordinarily loud scream, but looks like soundwaves emitting from Kira’s vocals, as if the yellow Dino Gem has amped up and or boosted Kira’s said vocal prowess [skill] to a superhuman level, that combined with the yellow colour of the soundwaves, makes it a cool visual to see. [Admittedly not a fan of DC myself] but makes me think maybe it was inspired by the look of the “Black Canary’s Canary Cry”.
The Sound:
There’s not much to say about it’s sound, however I thought it was cool that it sounds like a Pterodactyl and not just a high pitched “human” scream.
So, because of the reasons listed above, it has to be 4th on my list of my Top 5 Favourite Magic/Powers in TV & FILM.
5: ELDRITCH MAGIC
Wielded by: Doctor Strange and various masters of the Mystic Arts.
What is Eldritch Magic:
Eldritch Magic is a form of sorcery that allows sorcerers to generate energy from other dimensions, to create intricate orange patterns to form an array of magical fiery like constructs such as: Shields [akin to force-fields], Platforms, Weapons [e.g. Swords, Daggers, Whips], Magical Bands etc.
“The language of the Mystic Arts is as old as civilization. the sorcerers of antiquity, called the use of this language “spells”…the source code that shapes reality, we harness energy…drawn from other dimensions of the multiverse…to cast spells…to conjure shields…and weapons…to make magic.” Said by the Ancient One to Stephen Strange in the 2016 Doctor Strange film.
Eldritch magic made it’s first appearance in the 2016 Doctor Strange film, in the scene where The Ancient One is seen performing all kinds of magical constructs with it, against the villain of the film Keacilius.
The Colour and Design:
Reminiscent of Clary Frays rune magic, Eldrich Magic is also gold in colour and “spins and scatters” sparks from off it, however having a slight gleam of reddish-orange, that creates this depth to the magic that twists and spirals around itself, similar to how a plastic Chinese finger trap/puzzle looks when pulled.
The Sound:
I love that Eldrich Magic sounds like small bells being chimed that flutter into the sound [similar to Clary’s portal rune] of fire sparklers as the magic begins to dissipate, on top of that I love that in scene where The Ancient One is talking to Stephen Strange at Kamar-Taj, showing the magic to him, as she touches the magic it makes this very satisfying “bong” as I assume “the Winds of Watoomb” flaps between each layer of magic creating one of the most striking display’s of magic.
So, because of the reasons listed above, it has to be 5th on my list of my Top 5 Favourite Magic/Powers in TV & FILM.
